The Zone Diet is mainly focusing on stabilizing hormone levels, eliminate significant shifts in insulin production and optimizing the body’s metabolic function. Through the regulation of blood sugar, you allow your body to burn excess body fat. In order to balance insulin, Zone diet works by recommending consuming the right ratio of carbohydrates, proteins and fats in daily diet to control the hormone insulin in the bloodstream. Too much of the hormone insulin causes increase fat storage and inflammation in the body - prime cause of obesity, heart attack and diabetes.

Zone Diet limit the intake of unfavorable carbohydrates. Unfavorable carbohydrates come from foods that number high on the glycemic index. Food which has high glycemic index absorbed faster into the bloodstream.  Thus, resulting insulin level to rise faster and you will get hungry sooner after meal. Even though this kind of food is not favorable, they are not absolutely banned. The Zone diet doesn't completely  prohibit certain grouping of food, but more about making a wise decision and balance your food plan. So, try keeping unfavorable carbohydrates to not more than 25% of you food allocation. Fruits and vegetables are the preferred source of carbohydrates and monounsaturated fats-such as olive, olive oil, almonds, avocados, almonds and macadamia nut.

There are only 3 main basics to follow under Zone Diet. The first aspect-Proper proportions of the three macronutrients i.e. 40% of carbohydrates, 30% of protein and 30% of fat.  The second aspect is proper meal time i.e. eat at the same time, or nearly the same time for each and every meal daily. The third aspect portion control. There are a few methods to accomplish this aspect- the hand or eyeball method, the plate method and to weight or measure everything  out. The easiest is the hand or eyeball method.
